Crowd turns out for First Flush of Portland Loo

About a hundred neighbors jostled for space on the sidewalk, along with all those tv cameras,  for the First Flush of the Portland Loo.    There were lots of microphones but no PA system so folks strained to hear Curtis Banger explain design decisions and Greg Madden explain fabrication. Mayor-elect Sam Adams suddenly appeared, the surprise First Flusher.   The toilet roared to everyone’s applause.

Neighborhood activists were definitely on the scene.   Sisters of the Road’s Civic Action Group presented City Commish Randy Leonard with the Golden Plunger award while PHLUSH people backed him up with signs and banners.

Charles Maclean (we met in front of a toilet at the World Toilet Summit in Delhi) took some splendid photos of people there. I shot some too and Oregonian piece has a slide show.
