The decision in the ongoing Old Town saga “Developers vs Preservationists” has been postponed again.
According to Senior Planner Karl Lisle of the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, “The continuation of the November 12, 2008 City Council Hearing on the Recommended Skidmore/Old Town Design Guidelines and Zoning Code Amendments has been postponed until March 19, 2009 at 2 p.m. The Mayor’s Office requested this schedule change in response to concerns from stakeholders who would not have been able to participate if the hearing were held as previously scheduled in February.”
Delays curb momentum for change and hurt developers while helping change-adverse preservationists. Note that this is a continuation of a November 2008 City Council meeting to discuss zoning changes that Old Town community members and their partners have been considering for years and took months to draft. A postponement of four months seems excessive. After all, stakeholders have channels for testimony other than meeting attendance.
